About the Class

The texts in AP English IV are drawn primarily for European literature: we will be reading major works by Orwell, Huxley, Plato, Sophocles, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Swift, Voltaire, Chopin, as well as various peots and writers of short stories. Outside reading will come from those works listed as useful for answering the open-ended question on the AP test.

The skills we will be working on reflect those competencies tested on the Advanced Placement Literataure and compostition Test given in May, but there will also be assignments which emphasize creativity and self-expression. The work load is significant, but we will do our best to keep it fairly evenly paced; students will always have plenty of notice on major assignments. Each syllabus will be handed out to the students and will be posted on this website. As in all courses, but especially in discussion-based classes such as mine, good attendance is critical. There is a great deal of instruction I simply cannot duplicate for a student who has missed.

This class is based on your particpation both in and out of the class. Please be sure to keep up with all assignments and to come see me if you have any questions. I am here to help you succeed. I am excited about the 2009-2010 school year. and can not wait to continue the conversation with you.
