This is my 19th year to teach and my eighth year at Bowie High School. My undergraduate degree is from A&M at Commerce in Journalism with an emphasis in public realations and advertising and a minor in marketing. I hold a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from the University of New Mexico and am currently taking classes toward a Master's Degree in Humanities from the University of Dallas. For two years I have had the honor of grading the AP Literature Exam in Louisville, Kentucky. Last year I scored the poetry essay and this year I read for the open ended question. Both experiences helped me get a better understanding of the exam and the expectations of the AP exam. I feel I am able to bring much more knowledge to the classroom.

Throughout my teaching career, I have been fortunate to have a variety of teaching positions, all of which have been wonderful sources of learning and insight. I have taught 6th and 8th grade language arts, journalism, path finders, 9th grade regular and pre AP, 12th grade regular and AP. Other positions I have held are yearbook and newspaper adviser, cheerleading coach, drill team instructor, and class sponsor.

I strive to continually show my students the importance of learning how to learn, so that they are prepared for life after high school. Learning is fun. Though it can be difficult at times, the rewards are worth it. I look forward to questioning, learning, struggling, and conversing about literarture and the world with all of my students this year.

I grew up in the midwest and moved down to Texas to attend college. After graduating, I married and moved around quite a bit. Both of my daughters were born in Florida, but grew up in Texas and New Mexico. We spent four years living in Albuquerque and enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery, but Texas was calling us back and have been back in Arlington for the past ten years.

My daughters are both away from home learning and growing. My oldest graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. She is currently working in Dallas with elementary students. My youngest is working on her undergraduate degree in English and plans to be a high school English teacher.

With both of my girls away at school, I spend my free time nurturing my flower garden and my dog Rebel. Though I miss both my girls, I have put my new found time to good use.
